New Materials for Energy Applications

Beyond Batteries

Functional and Engineered materials are of paramount importance in applications relating to Energy, such as:

  • Energy Storage – commonly referred to as Batteries
  • Energy Conversion – such as in Fuel Cells and Thermoelectrics
  • Energy Harvesting – includes Solar Cells and Windmills

While some of these technologies are mature and use materials that have been commoditized (e.g., amorphous silicon, lithium iron phosphate), there is intense ongoing research to utilize new inorganic and organic-inorganic hybrid materials to drive down cost and improve performance. In addition, there is a new emerging class of applications that utilize Advanced Materials that relate to aspects of Energy other than storage, conversion, and harvesting:

  • Improving energy efficiency of processes
  • Carbon capture
  • Water recovery from ambient air
  • Recovery of high value, difficult-to-obtain elements (such as lithium, green and blue hydrogen generation, and hydrogen storage)

NEI Corporation has created a focused group to develop and supply custom-synthesized materials to early-stage companies, researchers in large corporations, universities, and national laboratories. The purpose is to support our customers’ R&D and prototyping programs. In addition to producing materials at varying scales, from as little as hundreds of grams to multi-kilograms, NEI can characterize the materials by using a variety of analytical tools.

Our customers can rely on NEI to be a trusted source for Specialty Materials – powders, dispersions, tapes, and coatings. Contact us to find out what we can do for you.
