Abrasion Resistant Coatings

Abrasion resistant coatings are specialized surface treatments engineered to protect underlying materials from damage caused by friction, rubbing, and wear. Designed to enhance the durability and longevity of various surfaces, these coatings form a robust barrier that withstands scratching, scuffing, and erosion from contact with other materials. By significantly increasing a material’s resistance to mechanical wear, abrasion resistant coatings are crucial in applications ranging from protecting delicate components to extending the lifespan of high-traffic surfaces.

NANOMYTE® Hardcoat Product Lines

NEI’s abrasion resistant coatings provide excellent and durable scratch protection for a variety of materials, including plastic, metal, ceramic, wood, and composites. Easily applied using standard methods like dipping, brushing, or spraying, these coatings enhance the durability and extend the service life of your parts, particularly plastic substrates. This results in reduced maintenance and lower raw material, labor, and energy costs. For improved adhesion on plastics, NEI offers NANOMYTE® SR-Primer.

NEI’s hardcoats come in three formulations:

NANOMYTE® SR-100

SR-100 Abrasion Resistant Coating

Transparent plastics, such as polycarbonate, acrylic, and molded parts with a high gloss finish, can scratch and scuff easily, and lose transparency quickly, during routine use and maintenance. NANOMYTE® SR-100 fulfills the need for abrasion or scratch resistant coatings on plastic substrates. It forms a ceramic-like hard surface that is needed in a variety of industrial and consumer applications, such as ophthalmic & sportswear lenses, automobile, airplane windows, and 3D printed parts.

SR-100 Hardcoat offers substantial improvements in resistance to ASTM D1044 abrasion, with delta haze values typically under 1%. In addition to excellent scratch-resistance, SR-100 has very good chemical resistance, remaining unaffected by brief exposure to common household and industrial chemicals which can sometimes seriously degrade bare plastic surfaces. Sensitive polymers, such as polycarbonate, are well protected from solvent attack.

Precautions for Safe Handling:

Appropriate personal protective equipment should be used at all times. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Provide good
ventilation or extraction and avoid prolonged or repeated breathing of vapor. Keep away from heat, sparks, flames and other
sources of ignition. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
