NMC926 Electrodes Safety Information

This product is defined as an “Article” under the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) and the REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006. In its manufactured and shipped form, it does not pose a physical hazard or health risk to humans or the environment.

Precautions for Safe Handling: Appropriate personal protective equipment should be used at all times. Handle in a dry and well-ventilated area. Avoid creasing and folding, or actions that abrade, sand, or grind the coated surface, as this can cause the coating to delaminate or flake off, creating unnecessary dust. Persons already sensitized to Nickel or Cobalt should take extra caution handling this product.

Conditions for Safe Storage: Store sheets flat and in a dry and well-ventilated place, away from heat and moisture —ideally a desiccator or a dry box.

Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for complete information on the safe handling and storage of this material.

About Nickel-rich Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC)

Nickel-rich cathode materials like NMC926 are designed for next-generation lithium-ion battery R&D where high specific capacity and energy density are essential. By maximizing nickel content and reducing cobalt dependency, NMC926 delivers significantly higher discharge capacity per gram. For solid-state or high-voltage cell configurations, utilizing surface modifications like LiNbO3 coatings helps protect the active material against side reactions, ensuring enhanced ionic conductivity and long-term cycling stability.

About Lithium Niobate Coated NMC Powders

LiNbO3-coated NMC powders are designed to provide a protective, functional surface layer for NMC cathode materials. By applying a thin, lithium-ion conductive layer of Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3), these powders are engineered to address the inherent challenges of high-performance cathodes. The coating acts as a shield, which has the potential to mitigate direct contact between the active NMC particles and the electrolyte, a key step toward improving cycling stability and thermal resistance. This strategy is particularly valuable for high-nickel NMCs, where surface reactivity and long-term degradation are significant concerns. It offers a promising path for enhancing the longevity and reliability of advanced lithium-ion batteries without compromising on energy density.
