UV Protective Coatings

Durable Protection from Harmful UV rays

NEI’s UV-Protect (UVP) technology imparts enhanced protection from the effects of sun and weather exposure to maintain the unique properties of the coating when subjected to long-term outdoor exposure. NANOMYTE® coating products with UVP technology have demonstrated their ability to endure a minimum of 1,000 hours of weatherability testing (ASTM D4587).

Polymer and composite materials can be particularly sensitive to the effects of UV exposure, which can have a variety of undesirable effects, such as compromised coating adhesion, which eventually results in cracking and peeling. UV-degraded materials may also change colors, often resulting in the familiar yellowing of plastics and lose mechanical strength, making them prone to failure. NANOMYTE® UVP coatings block UV radiation, which protects surfaces by preventing further penetration of UV light, thereby preserving the material’s strength, coating adhesion, and appearance.

NANOMYTE® UVP coatings are available for purchase in liter and gallon quantities and can be applied by conventional coating processes, such as dipping, brushing or spraying. Additionally, NEI offers in-house coating services for customer’s parts, as well as coating development services, wherein coating formulations are customized to address specific customer requirements.

NANOMYTE® Product Lines with UVP Technology

NEI’s UV-Protect (UVP) technology has been formulated to enhance several of our popular NANOMYTE® coating products, which offer unique functionalities in coatings with unparalleled durability. The UVP functionality has been incorporated into each coating system without degrading other performance characteristics or ease of application. The cured film is both inherently resistant to the sun’s UV radiation, as well as capable of providing UV protection for the underlying surface.

Self-Healing Coatings with UVP

NEI has developed a line of self-healing top coats, whereby a physical self-healing phenomenon leads to gap closing and crack sealing. NANOMYTE® MEND coatings can be healed multiple times at the same defect location, thereby reducing life cycle costs by increasing the service life and reducing maintenance costs of the various substrates to which it is applied.

NANOMYTE® MEND 1000-UVP »

Thermal Cure – Thermal Healing – UV Protection

NANOMYTE® MEND 1000-UVP is a thermally-induced, self-healing coating with UV protective properties. When scratched or damaged, the 2-part coating’s self-healing function is activated upon application of a small amount of heat, such as from hot water or a hair dryer, to restore the surface back to its original appearance. MEND 1000-UVP is enhanced with NEI’s UV-Protect (UVP) technology, which blocks UV radiation and protects coated surfaces from the harmful effects of sun and weather exposure. The addition of UVP helps maintain the unique properties of the coating when subjected to long-term outdoor exposure, while preserving the underlying material’s strength, coating adhesion, and appearance.

Thermal Cure – Room Temperature Healing – UV Protection

NANOMYTE® MEND 2000-UVP is a solventborne, self-healing coating with UV protective properties, that heals at room temperature. The 2-part coating involves a unique phase-separated morphology that facilitates the delivery of the self-healing agent to the damage site (such as a scratch or crack) thereby restoring the coating appearance & function. When scratched or damaged, the coating’s self-healing function initiates at room temperature and can be accelerated with the application of heat. MEND 2000-UVP is enhanced with NEI’s UV-Protect (UVP) technology, which blocks UV radiation and protects coated surfaces from the harmful effects of sun and weather exposure. The addition of UVP helps maintain the unique properties of the coating when subjected to long-term outdoor exposure, while preserving the underlying material’s strength, coating adhesion, and appearance.

Ambient Cure – Thermal Healing – UV Protection

NANOMYTE® MEND 3000-UVP is an ambient cure, self-healing coating with UV protective properties. When scratched or damaged, the 2-part coating’s self-healing function is activated upon application of a small amount of heat, such as from hot water or a hair dryer, to restore the surface back to its original appearance. MEND 3000-UVP is enhanced with NEI’s UV-Protect (UVP) technology, which blocks UV radiation and protects coated surfaces from the harmful effects of sun and weather exposure. The addition of UVP helps maintain the unique properties of the coating when subjected to long-term outdoor exposure, while preserving the underlying material’s strength, coating adhesion, and appearance.
